DE INSCHRIJVING VOOR DE ET OUTREACH AWARD 2021 IS GEOPEND. Nominaties dienen vóór 10 september 2021 elektronisch te worden ingediend bij Prof. dr. A.P. IJzerman, secretaris natuurwetenschappen van de Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen via secretaris@khmw.nl. In de circulaire meteen hieronder leest u waaraan een nominatie dient te voldoen. Met het indienen van een nominatie accepteert u dat uw gegevens worden geregistreerd voor de doeleinden van deze prijs.

DE KONINKLIJKE HOLLANDSCHE MAATSCHAPPIJ DER WETENSCHAPPEN STELT MET INGANG VAN 2020 UIT HET DE ZEEUW-VAN DISHOECK FONDS EEN PRIJS TER BESCHIKKING BESTEMD VOOR EEN PROJECT DAT TOT DOEL HEEFT DE STERRENKUNDE BIJ EEN BREDER PUBLIEK ONDER DE AANDACHT TE BRENGEN.

De jaarlijkse ET Outreach Award bestaat uit een prijs (€ 1.500) en een bijdrage aan de projectkosten (€ 3.500). De prijs heeft tot doel om “outreach” te bevorderen als één van de huidige verantwoordelijkheden van sterrenkundigen. Onder “outreach” wordt bijvoorbeeld verstaan: communicatie en ‘engagement’ met het algemene publiek; het gebruik van astronomie voor educatie bij primair en voortgezet onderwijs; en de inzet van sterrenkunde om maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen te bevorderen.

In aanmerking komen “early career” astronomen, t.w. masterstudenten, promovendi en postdocs (tot max. 6 jaar na promotie) die een in Nederland uit te voeren project willen voordragen. Over de inzendingen oordeelt een onafhankelijke jury bestaande uit leden van de KHMW en zo nodig een externe expert. De aanvraag zal onder andere worden beoordeeld op originaliteit, haalbaarheid/uitvoerbaarheid van het project, en de te verwachten impact.

THE ROYAL HOLLAND SOCIETY OF SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES (KHMW) ANNOUNCES A PRIZE MADE AVAILABLE FROM THE DE ZEEUW-VAN DISHOECK FUND FOR A PROJECT THAT AIMS TO BRING ASTRONOMY TO THE ATTENTION OF A WIDER AUDIENCE.

The annual ET Outreach Award consists of a prize (€ 1,500) and a contribution to the project costs (€ 3,500). The award aims to promote “Outreach” as one of the responsibilities of astronomers. Outreach includes communication and engagement with the general public; the use of astronomy in primary and secondary education; and the use of astronomy as a tool for development (capacity building).

Qualifying recipients are early-career astronomers, i.e. Masters students, PhD students and postdocs (up to a maximum of 6 years after PhD award) who propose an outreach project to be carried out in The Netherlands. An independent jury consisting of members of the KHMW and, if necessary, an external expert, will judge the submissions. The application will be assessed for, amongst other things, originality, feasibility of the project, and the expected impact.
